The weather was beautiful! Right now we are "parked" in place at the first ocean drilling location, which is directly in the middle of an island chain near Santorini called the Cyclades island group. Can you find it on a map? For most of the year, this popular area is too full of cruise ships for our research vessel to squeeze in. That's why we're here over the holiday season--cruise ships are taking a break. Even though it's winter, the weather in this part of the world is amazing. It's been 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit every day, and most days are sunny.
I saw a dolphin! Near the end of our journey from Spain to the waters around Santorini, Greece, a dolphin a dophin came to say "Hello!" to me as I was watching the sunrise. What a magical way to begin the day, right?
