Here in Barcelona, people are very connected to the environment. From eating natural foods and vegetables that are grown in the garden, to Christmas traditions of picking mushrooms, to saving the environment by using other methods of transportation, life is connected to nature in many ways.
Here in Barcelona, there are both mountains and a beach. There aren't many other cities in the world with this type of geography. The beach makes for warmer weather, but the mountains foster a cooler climate. Therefore, there is much variation in temperature within this small area, although it is generally warm. The natural world is very connected to the material world, as seen in the picture of the fireplace above. This is one of the oldest fireplaces in the world, and it is modeled after a mushroom which can be found in the mountains.
Because of this climate, it is easy to grow foods like vegetables, and also grapes to make wine! There are many wineries and places called vineyards to grow grapes to make the wine. In addition, there is a major port next to the ocean. A port accepts boats that deliver goods traded with other countries, as well as things needed to live in the city, like clothing and food.
