Interview with Priscilla

I recently stole my husband’s sweatpants, and I can’t believe I didn’t start wearing them sooner!" She then suggested we should go to one of the thrift stores nearby to buy some comfy clothing.

What do you like to do in your free time?:

"I like to travel and see places, trying new restaurants, and now that I have a child, I try new playgrounds. I also LOVE shopping."

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

"I speak only English and Chichewa. In Chichewa, we say "Muli Bwanji," which is "how are you," or "Bo Bo," which is sort of like a hello. Both are more like greetings, and they don't directly translate."

She then made fun of the way I said "Bo Bo."

Do you have pets?:

"No, but I used to have a bunny named Shenzi like the hyena from The Lion King. I am thinking about getting a dog soon."

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

"I have traveled. I have been to Tanzania, Ghana and Mozambique. I did my Master's in Ghana last year for eight months, and the other trips were when I was younger, so I don't remember much."

What do you do for work?:

As I interview her, we are both at work waiting for an experiment to finish, as soon as I ask this question she playfully rolls her eyes and scoffs, "For work, I am a research assistant for the Blantyre Malaria Project. I work with Katie at The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Blantyre." We both laugh.

Priscilla has been working under my research mentor for a long time, and she is a fantastic scientist.
