Hong Kong's Cuisine!

Introduction:

Hi guys! Today we’re going to talk about one of the most interesting topics of all… FOOD!

In Hong Kong, meals are usually made with noodles or rice and come in all kinds of flavors from mild to super spicy. The proteins are just as varied: beef, pork, lamb, eel. And LOTS of different kinds of fish!

One of the most famous traditions here is dim sum, which are small dishes like dumplings and buns that families share together. And guess what? Tea is just as important as the food, here in Hong Kong! The most common teas I’ve tried so far are milk tea and jasmine tea. I’ve had these drinks mostly cold, but hot tea is just as popular, here.

Fun fact: People in Hong Kong drink tea even more than they drink soda! Can you imagine that?

What food did I try?:

One of my favorite meals so far was braised beef brisket with spicy noodle soup. I went with some friends to a restaurant near our campus, and this meal was delicious! You could choose how spicy you wanted your meal to be, and since I love spicy food, I picked the hottest level. The noodles were slippery and chewy, and the beef was soft and full of flavor.

I also tried some fun desserts and snacks:

  • Matcha ice cream: green tea flavored, creamy, and a little earthy.
