Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I took a three-hour bus from Lappeenranta to Helsinki, a 224 kilometer (140 mile) trip at the beginning of the week. I then returned it back to my home in Lappeenranta later in the week.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have done a lot of traveling so far on this journey! My initial trip to Finland from Rochester, New York, was 6560 km (4,076 miles). After that, I have done some traveling inside of Finland, including a 224 km (140 mi) trip from Helsinki to Lappeenranta multiple times, a 147 km (91 mi) trip from Lappeenranta to Lahti and a 385 km (240 mi) trip from Lappenranta to Turku.

I have also traveled outside of Finland. For example, I went on an internation student trip to Iceland, which was 2,263 km (1,406 mi). I have also visited Tallin, Estonia (88 km / 55 mi), Riga, Latvia (398 km / 229 mi), and Vilnius, Lithuania (689 km / 428 mi).

All these distances are only one way; double it to figure out the round-trip distance I traveled!

How did I get around this week?:

In Finland, everyone usually gets around through public transportation or walking everywhere.

In my home city of Lappeenranta, I take the local bus when I need to go somewhere in the city center, and then I walk whatever distance the bus will not take me.
