On March 25th, my boyfriend came to visit me in Lugo from New York City. I'd been waiting for John to visit me since last year, so it was so exciting that he finally made it!

John and I decided to travel around Galicia and Portugal for the Carnival holiday week. Carnival is a religious festivity that is popular across Spain and Portugal since many Spanish and Portugese people are Catholic. At my school, we had almost a week off from school to enjoy the Carnival festivals happening in early March.

Before we headed to Portugal, John enjoyed discovering some of the Galician cities that I've enjoyed so much visting. We first started off at Santiago de Compostela, where the most famous cathedral of Galicia is located. Many people come here to do a pilgrimage (a long, religious trip to a holy place). As you may recall, this is El Camino of Santiago. However, we kind of cheated a little and took the bus.

After visiting inside the cathedral, we got hungry. We were lucky to find an amazing restaurant that served Galician octopus. John tried it and he loved it (as expected). For dessert, we had caramel flan which was recommended by a lady who was leaving.
