Autobiography: Travel, Learn, and Travel some more…

I love to hug as a way of greeting people to show them that I am friendly. However, in France, you greet people with a kiss on each cheek! I became panicked the first time I greeted someone this way. I thought to myself, “Which cheek do I kiss first? What if I miss their cheek? Do I have to greet everyone in the room this way?”

Even when the Paris locals can tell French is not my first language, they are very helpful when I cannot think of the word I want to say. I have met many nice people who appreciate that I am trying to learn their language. Even when they speak little English, or I cannot find the word in French, finding a way to communicate gives me a special way to gain insight to other cultures.

Each day is a new adventure in Paris. I enjoy trying new foods, walking around the city and finding a monument or museum, and practicing my language skills in French. My last semester in Paris I took all of my classes in French. Now, this semester, I will be taking my classes in French as well as having an internship known as a “stage” at a French company. I am very excited to see how French businesses are run! I love that each day I am learning something new about the language, the culture, and the history of France. Living in a new place has already taught me so much myself and the world around me. I am happy that I can share my journey with your classroom! I hope that I can spark your interest in travel too! Talk to see you soon. Au revoir!
