This week I listened to a classic French artist, Edith Piaf. Piaf is an international star known her for her French cabaret, singing, songwriting, and acting. She is one of France's most famous stars. The songs she wrote were often about her life. A song of hers you might know is "Je ne regrette rien," which is played during the movie Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio. It is old timey music and sounds like it should be played on a record player, but it is very beautiful!
There is a six week sale in Paris right now called Soldes. All the stores have huge sales around between 30-50% off, but they can go as high as 70% off. Imagine Black Friday but for six weeks! This sale happens twice a year. This sale began January 11th and ends February 21st. Since I will have an internship this coming semester I bought some clothes for work. I made the mistake of shopping on Saturday and needless to say, the stores were packed!
This week I am reading my favorite book translated into French, The Great Gatsby!
This week was cold so the games I played were inside. My friends and I played the German card game Ligretto. It is a very fun game that can be played with two to twelve players. It is kind of like Uno and the game Spit. I am not sure if Spit is a popular game in California, but my sister and I used to play all the time when we were little and we were very competitive. Ligretto uses colors and counting to get rid of your cards before everyone else. It is very quick and fun!
