Oh, The Food

How is the food prepared?:

Typically, Korean food is prepared by yourself on a grill in front of you. If it is barbeque or street food, you typically see the food prepared in front of you. There are times when the worker prepares it for you and when that happens, there are usually one or two people behind the counter running the restaurant. A note I would like to add is that American breakfast in Korea is prepared with a lot of sugar. For example, waffles are usually paired with ice cream and are snack-sized. Additionally, the food is prepared in family sizes (which is something I had to learn the hard way) because it is expected to share your food with your family or your partner.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

I believe that typical Korean food has a sense of urgency like the environment. For example, when street food is prepared, it is typically eaten right there at the stall or the barbeque is done on your own terms so you have control of the dinner time. In Korea, there is a huge environment of hurry culture as they are constantly on the go which originated from a post-war mentality. This can also be seen in the small coffee addiction I have noticed while being here. There are at least five coffee shops on each street you walk on with Americanos being the go-to choice.
