The main language is Lao, which is similar to Thai.
The currency is the Laotian Kip. $1 USD is equal to over 8,800 kip!
One bottle of water is 15,000-30,000 kip, which is around $1.70-$3.00 USD.
My classmates and I visited a pizza place and ordered four-cheese pizza, spicy salami and Hawaiian. It tasted very authentic and this could be due to the fact that the chef/owner was Italian. It had been a while since all of us had authentic really good pizza, as there's only one kind of pizza place in Khon Kaen.
I listened to a live band with my classmates. The band played the song Yesterday by the Beatles for me, which I thought was really sweet even though I had requested Valerie by Amy Winehouse. I don't think they knew that one. They were mainly playing popular Lao and Thai songs. We couldn't understand them, but they sounded great!
