What is it like for kids in Singapore?

Also we don’t have big gardens outside our homes because land in Singapore is very scarce and expensive, so our apartments are high rise buildings and look like little pigeon holes. We live on the university campus as my father works at the university, so it is nearer for him to get to work.

What chores do you have at home?:

I help my mother with all sorts of chores - cooking, mopping the floor, laundry. I recently learned how to iron clothes with my mother’s help. I love to cook and can make meat dumplings, pizza, stir fry vegetables with mushrooms, and I love to bake chocolate brownies! I can peel potatoes and carrots and cut them up. I’m learning more dishes from my mother. We cook a lot for the students that live on the campus, and we enjoy inviting them over for meals together so that we can get to know them better!

What jobs do your parents have?:

My dad is a professor in the university; he teaches virtual reality in the School of Communication and Information. My mother does not work, as she takes care of me and helps me with my studies.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

My school starts at 7:30am but I have to be in school by 7:15am. My day ends at 1.30pm because I am in primary 1 (first grade). For the older children, school ends around 2:30 or 3pm.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

My mother drives me to school. My parents said that when I am older, I will go to school on my own.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch at home when I come back from school.
