What is it like for kids in Singapore?

We have two snack breaks in school, so we don’t get too hungry before we go home.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

We speak English and lessons are conducted in English. We also have Chinese lessons one hour a day. Hello in Chinese is 你好吗? (Ni Hao Ma).

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some of my classmates have Chinese or Malay names; other names include Jasper, Sylvia, Jovia, Khloe, Eden, Shannon, Luke, Jude, Benjamin.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

English, mathematics, Chinese, physical education, music, art, civics and moral education.

What is your homework like?:

We bring back worksheets every weekend. We also have spelling for English and Chinese every week. For primary 1 and 2 students, we have no exams, and we have less homework, also. I am very happy about that, as I have more time to play and relax. Children in primary 3 and above, will have more homework and exams.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

I like to play with my friends at the playground after school. I like to go to my friend’s home for a swim or to play board games or with toys. I have many toys and board games, which my parents bought in America when we lived there for two years. We brought these gifts back to Singapore because the toys here are much more expensive. I often feel lonely at home because I am the only child. I don’t really play sports.
