Jordy's Life

Introduction:

Jordy is one of my classmates, and he is a Dutchman through and through. He loves Dutch traditions, Dutch food, and Dutch culture. I thought he'd be the perfect friend to ask about what it is like growing up in the Netherlands.

Jordy is from the Dutch city of Gouda (it's pronouced "how-duh"). Gouda is world-famous for its cheese. Have you ever tried gouda cheese?

Jordy told me all about what it's like to be a kid in the Netherlands! He tried his best to answer the questions the way he would've back when he was your age.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, I usually ate Nutella and bread. Some mornings I ate one or two pieces of bread with a few slices of meat.

For a snack during school, I always ate a banana with a small juicebox of apple juice.

At lunch, we had a break from school where we would bike home to eat lunch. I usually ate bread for lunch, similar to my breakfast.

For dinner, I ate lots of different things. A typical Dutch meal consisted of vegetables, meat and potatoes.

What is your house like?:

I lived in a one-family home. Our houses are tall and skinny, and they are connected to the houses on either side. So in my neighborhood, our homes are built very closely together, but only one family lives in each house instead of having apartment buildings.
