Changing Seasons

That day, a swirling, cool breeze that lightly frosted your skin competed with the gentle rays of sunlight; the air was fresh, earthy, and clean; and the grass, beaded with the morning dew, was gleaming with scattered light. For me, it was one of those moments where you're taking several deep breaths, really soaking in your surroundings, and not thinking about anything in particular aside from marveling at the beauty of the world.

Where does it live?:

Trees are everywhere!  However, your location during the transition from summer to fall has a big impact on your experience. I think some people might think I'm a bit dramatic, going on and on about trees in the fall. However, it's fascinating to me as I don't really get to see such drastic changes in color where I'm from. In San Luis Obispo, the color of the hills usually goes from brown (due to hot and dry summers) to green (rainy winters) and then back to brown. Also, usually when I'm at school, I spend most of my time indoors either studying or hanging out with my friends. That's another reminder to go out and enjoy life! Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is really important!

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Trees get water and other nutrients from their roots in the soil. Their leaves are like little tree-food factories that collect energy from the sun. Animals and strong winds help trees to reproduce by transporting their seeds to soil in different places.

I don't know much more about the biology of plants aside from this. You can ask me about physics, but please ask your teachers for more information about plant science!
