Spanish is the main language spoken here. However, since it's a large tourist destination, there is a little bit of English spoken too.
Pesos are used here, like in the rest of Colombia.
A bottle of water costs about 3,000 COP, which is about US$1. The price is slightly higher than in Bogotá because Cartagena is such a popular destination for tourists.
There was a street vendor in one of the plazas selling patacones, which were so delicious that I went back the following night to buy more! Patacones are green plantain chips, fried twice and sprinkled with salt. What made these patacones particularly great were the sauces the vendor had to put on top. The sauces included guacamole, a garlic sauce and salsa picante (hot sauce)! It was fantastic and only cost 2,000 pesos (less than US$1)!
I listened to some of the popular local genres, which include champeta, cumbia and salsa!
