The typical way of life in Colombia is more relaxed than what I was used to in the United States. Here, people like to live in the moment. This means enjoying time with friends and family and not always worrying about what will happen tomorrow or next week. For me, Sundays in the United States were a stressful day, dedicated to productivity, trying to get as much done as humanly possible before Monday arrived. Sunday is seen completely differently in Colombia. Here, Sunday is dedicated to fun, relaxation and enjoyment. For this reason, one of my favorite Colombian traditions is spending Sunday at the park.
One of my favorite Bogotá traditions is spending the whole day at the park on Sundays. Every Sunday, parks around the city fill up with people as family and friends gather together. People will bring food, drinks and tents and spend the whole day enjoying the sunshine and the company of their loved ones. Vendors walk around selling balloon animals, ice cream and other snacks. Children spend the entire day running around chasing their friends (or the birds that also like to spend the day in the park). The park is a particularly great spot for children's birthday parties. Many families will pick a spot among the trees, set up decorations and wait for their guests to arrive.
