The curry sauce contained leaves of a plant called fenugreek (which tastes a bit like maple syrup), mushrooms, and cream. It was pretty good! Not everything here is unfamiliar though — we got chocolate lava cake for dessert. Some of you might have tried it before. Yummy!
I've been enjoying a lot of the local Sega-style music, partially because that is what my radio station picks up. I've heard it so many times I'm starting to recognize the tune to a lot of songs. One thing I love about Sega music is that the locals love to sing it during beach picnics on weekends. They have large round drums that they use when singing. You can usually hear it at any beach!
Swimming in the waterfall pools at Sept Cascades was a lot of fun. The water was freezing and felt even colder because this area of the island is located in the cooler, rainier, rainforest region. We had a lot of fun jumping off of rocks into the pools.
I have been reading about the Thaipoosum Cavadee holiday, which takes place today! Mauritius has a lot of public holidays where everything (including schools) closes down for the day. Today is one of those days! It is a religious holiday for the Tamil people, who are originally from India. I've been spending a lot of time learning about this holiday.
I went scuba diving! I am currently working on my certification. It is still a little bit scary, but it's also so beautiful and exciting! People aren't made like fish, so it's a strange feeling to be so deep underwater.
