German is the main language spoken in Saarbrücken, along with the regional dialect, Saarlandisch. The city happens to sit right on the French border, so there is also a strong French presence. French people will often cross the border to shop or go out to eat in Saarbrücken.
Germany uses euros. Today 1 euro = 1.21 dollars.
One of my biggest pet peeves about Germany is that you have to pay for water when you go to a restaurant. It normally costs around 2.50 euros for a small bottle, which I think is absurd!
One of my roommates is Italian, and we made pizza from scratch. SO good! We did a pizza margarita because I'm vegetarian, so just tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil on top.
Since moving to Saarbrücken, my taste in music has widened a lot. I love listening to Spanish, French, Italian and German music! We also have a radio in our kitchen, which normally plays American top hits as well.
