Everyone here speaks Portuguese, but the accent is a bit different from other regions I've visited. For example, people speak a little faster and their tone of voice is much lower. It sounds "thicker" when they speak compared to other cities.
Most people use Pix to pay for everything. Pix is a payment app that allows people to carry and spend money, but the currency in Brazil is Reias, or Real (R).
A single serving bottle of water may cost about R2, or about $0.40 in the United States. Most people buy large water containers that are around three or four gallons or so. This way, people can drink from the container over a longer period of time. These larger bottles cost about R15, or $3 in the United States.
