The Ger Districts

However, even though now about half a million people live in the ger districts, there has been no large organizational effort from the government, which usually provides infrastructure to its citizens, to instill more permanent, sustainable resources. Since the ger districts were formed haphazardly, it is difficult to know how, where, and the number of resources that people need.

Is this need being met? How?:

The needs are not currently being met in a safe and long-term way. Because there is no central heating, people living in the ger districts burn coal and other toxic materials inside their homes for heat. That toxicity creates air pollution throughout the city. Right now, the government is engaging in conversations about how to provide for people in the ger districts.
