Taste Testing Catalunya

Introduction:

Just like the America is divided into 50 states, Spain is divided into 17 separate regions called comunidades autónomas (autonomous communities). Just like the United States, each comunidad autónoma has its own special culture, food and sometimes language! While there are foods that someone can try all over the US (I've been missing a good cheeseburger), we Wisconsinites know that no one else can compete with our cheeses. Spain is a lot like this too.

What food did I try?:

I live in the comunidad autónoma called Catalunya, in the northeast corner of Spain. With the Meditteranean sea directly to our east and the French border to our north, Catalunyan food is a delicious mixture of savory seafood and crispy pastries. The famous Spanish staples like cured meets, soft cheeses and fresh breads can be found at any cafe (just like a cheeseburger is on every american menu). My favorite quick meal here after a long day of work is a baguette with tomatoes, olive oil and oregano. Of course, I've made sure to try the local dishes, and have made some field notes about these tasty tests!

Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal of the day. Lucky for me, Spain has plenty of options.
