Humans are the biggest potential threat to the European pond turtle. The building of roads and cities have converted the turtles‘ natural habitat into an uninhabitable space for them. It is getting harder and harder for the turtles to find suitable places to nest. Despite being common throughout all of Europe, the European pond turtle has become rare in many countries.
