Nature Walks with Marissa

Introduction:

My city is not known for being picturesque or pretty. I still love it though! It has hidden treasures like small parks and nature paths. There is also a river that runs through town. There are not many wild animals around. I did some research on this, and it turns out that there is not a lot of biodiversity in Germany.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Some of the most interesting animals here are the small ones. The coolest animal I have seen so far is a freshwater turtle. It was swimming around in a pond with some fish.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I got very excited when I spotted it. Turtles are interesting to me because they are amphibious, meaning they live both on land and in the water.

Where does it live?:

If it was a European pond turtle, as I suspect, it spends only part of its day in the water. European pond turtles can travel long distances from water. They are often seen in water but do not have to stay there.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

These turtles lay their eggs on land. Since they eat a combination of plants and animals, they are omnivores. They adjust their diets according to the time of year, food availability and energy needs.
