The majority of the blooming fields are here in the north where we get more rain, especially in the mountain towns, but even down south where there has only been a little bit of rain, the cacti are blooming, too. Aloe vera actually has a very interesting bloom!
It's very simple... no rain, no flowers! The rain after the drought explains why this year is so fantastic. I also think, and this is just my theory, that the lack of use of pesticides and weed killers here enables wildflowers to bloom in profusion. In America, I have seen crews spraying the roadsides to keep the weeds away, but that actually kills off everything, including wildflowers that might grow. There is no roadside spraying here, and so the environment takes care of itself.
The flowers here are currently so abundant that it seems likely that the fields of flowers will always exist here, as long as there is rain.
