I have created a special tradition that I call the daily challenge. Every day, I put out a little challenge, such as a Sudoku, a puzzle or a word search. I try to make the challenges relevant to where we are traveling. I put up the scoreboard! It is a passive entertainment activity that guests can do when they have the time. The guests really get going with it! They tend to be very competitive.
Did you know that there is a word that is forbidden to say out loud on board a French ship? I won’t even say this word in English. I can’t even tell you the spelling! If something happened, then I would think it was my fault. I think it comes from superstitions in the days of old. I'm not sure about the origin, but I think it comes from legends of old. Everyone takes this supertition tradition very seriously!
Maybe you can do some research to find out the mystery. But, please do not say this word out loud during our livestream!
Sailing ships may have traditions that are connected to the environments where they sail. For example, we do a ceremony whenever we cross the equator line. Equator-crossing ceremonies, typically featuring King Neptune, are done on almost every ship of every kind. People who have never crossed the equator before are called “pollywogs.” The ceremony celebrates their first time crossing the equator. It's always very, very fun!
Aboard Le Commandant Charcot, we have our parka party. This party is where everyone wears their heavy winter parka, and we socialize outside on our top deck.
