A Day in the Life of a German High School Senior

The house used to be divided into several apartments, but now only our family lives in the house. The house has two stories and an attic.

What chores do you have at home?:

My family has a big cleaning day every Saturday. I am responsible for cleaning the sinks, mirrors and counters. I also replace all of the dirty towels in the house with clean towels. I am also responsible for packing my lunch for school every day.

What jobs do your parents have?:

My mom is a pre-school teacher. In Germany, we call pre-school "kindergarten," but I know that in the United States, kindergarten usually refers to the first year of formal schooling. My dad is responsible for the maintenance of a dam in one of our local rivers.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 7:30am everday. I typically finish school at 2:00pm, but on Tuesdays, my classes go until 3:35pm.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I walk with my brother and sister to school. I have walked to school without my parents from a young age since I have an older sister who used to walk with me and my younger siblings.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch with my friends in whatever classroom I just had class in. The cafeteria is very crowded and noisy. Since I bring my own lunch, I don't need to go to the cafeteria anyway. I love cookies!
