What main languages are spoken here?:

German is the main language spoken in the Dresden region, but you can hear a special dialect of German here called sächsisch. In the sächsisch dialect, some consonants, such as "t" are pronounced more like a "d" and "k" is pronounced more closely to a "g" sound.

What type of money is used here?:

I didn't travel to any different countries during my break, so I used euros to pay for things this entire week.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A one-liter bottle of water at my local supermarket, Rewe, costs .44 euro cents, which equals about .52 cents in U.S. dollars.

What was the best meal this week?:

Germany has the tradition of afternoon Kaffee und Kuchen (kah-feh und koo-ken). This tradition involves drinking coffee (Kaffee) and eating cake (Kuchen) in the afternoon as a special weekly treat. This week I had the most delicious piece of pumpkin cheesecake and a large mug of Milchkaffee, which is coffee with lots of milk and foam.

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I listened to some film and television music by the German composer Klaus Doldinger. He wrote the theme song for the extremely popular German crime series Tatort.
