Spanish is the official language spoken in Mexico. Some people also speak a native Mexican language. One of the most common of these languages is called Nahuatl. Spanish and English have borrowed some words from Nahuatl, like coyote, avocado/aguacate, chile, and tomato/tomate.
There are also many people who speak English here - some who learn in school and some who move to Mexico City from the United States or another English-speaking country. There are also many immigrants from Asia and Europe, so you may hear Chinese, Korean, German, French, ano more.
The Mexican "peso" is the money used here. It takes just over 17 pesos to make a U.S. dollar. So 5 dollars is about 85 pesos, and 20 dollars is about 341 pesos.
A water bottle is typically between 25 to 45 pesos. Water from the tap is not safe to drink, so we buy big jugs of water called garrafónes. These hold about 20 liters of water and cost about 50 to 100 pesos.
