With a city hosting nearly 300,000 people, it is no surprise that there is constantly available transportation in Haifa! As a student, I often find myself traveling and exploring Israel, whether that be going for lunch from class, visiting Jerusalem or Tel Aviv's historic sites, or hanging out with my friends at night in the local town.
Since I am a student, I need cheap and reliable ways to get from school to home, or to places where I can explore the city. The good news is that Israel has one of the best public transportation systems in the world! There are a variety of different transportation methods an individual in Haifa can use to get around.
Individuals mainly get around Haifa by bus. The buses run every day, from morning till night and are readily accessible to everyone. While cities such as New York City rely on the underground (subway), Haifa has many buses running overtime that take people where they need to go. You can get almost anywhere in Israel by bus! The buses here are extremely comfortable - they come equipped with phone-chargers and ample seating. Like the NYC subway's Metrocard, bus-riders in Haifa can use a card called the Rav-Kav to pay for the buses in Israel with a single touch of the card on the payment machine. Or, they can use their phones to scan the bus code and pay for the trip online.
