Alba's Life in Spain

What chores do you have at home?:

"Washing up the dishes, sweeping, making the bed, and washing clothes." In her home, Alba has a washing machine and a dishwasher. This is not particularly common in Galicia, as my apartment has neither. Dryers for clothes are also very uncommon (even though everything is always wet here).

What jobs do your parents have?:

"My mom is a teacher at a school. My father works at the university, where he authorizes forms, prints off papers and books for the students, and helps the students with any problems." Alba's mother is a teacher with me at our primary school, CEP Ventín.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

"I arrive to school at 8:40 and leave for home at 2:30." She added that she normally does not stay after school for activities. Institutos (high schools) in Spain do not typically have associated sports teams or much in the way of after-school programming.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

"My mom drives me to school, since my school is between our home and Ventín." Many of the other students walk to school.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

"I eat lunch at home with my mom. My favorite food is percebes (barnacles)." I have yet to try cooked barnacles, though I have heard from multiple people here that they are quite good. She added that her favorite dessert is baked cheesecake.
