The main language here is Mongolian. Mongolian sounds like nothing else. It is called an Altaic language and is very distantly related to Korean, but it's also still very different from Korean.
The name of the currency here is the tugrik. The tugrik is quite inflated, which means that you have to spend a lot of them to get very much. It costs about 15,000 tugriks to buy a delicious plate of pasta. That sounds like a lot, but it is only about six U.S. dollars.
A bottle of water usually costs a little under 1,000 tugriks. That is less than 50 U.S. cents!
There is an Italian restaurant in Ulaanbaatar that decided to have a Mexican pop-up this past Saturday. The idea was that for just one night, the restaurant would serve really delicious Mexican food. Mission accomplished!
