When a friend came to visit me, I finally took Medellín's famous tram up into the hills above the city to get views of the surrounding hill neighborhoods and the beautiful greenery last weekend. Sometimes during the week, I'm so focused on my daily tasks that I forget to look up and admire the mountains that surround Medellín on all sides. It was refreshing to get up above it all on the tram and admire Medellín's natural beauty from the sky.
Here's something fun I learned: although Colombia beats most parts of the United States in terms of the variety of fruits available, there are a few fruits that we can find more easily in the U.S. For example, we grow different types of apples that most Colombians have never tried, and we also grow varieties of berries that don't exist in Colombia. I'm hoping to make an apple pie for my Colombian roommates to try when Thanksgiving rolls around!
