Even though Spanish is the primary language spoken in Medellín, it's an international city, which means that the city hosts many foreigners and locals alike. Yesterday was my friend Amanda's birthday, so we had a group picnic in the botanical garden with all of her friends. Before we sang the "Happy Birthday" song, we realized that we could speak a total of five different languages between us: Korean, English, Spanish, French and German. We had fun singing the birthday song in all five different languages!
Guess what? Colombian banknotes support girl power! Unlike U.S. dollar bills, which only display pictures of historical male politicians, Colombian bills (pesos) show a range of both male and female important social figures. For example, the 2,000 peso banknote sports a picture of the female artist Débora Arango, who both painted and sculpted art depicting representations of controversial topics such as religion and politics.
