How was the weather this week?:

Antarctica only has two seasons, summer (October to February) and winter (March to September). The weather in the Antarctic Peninsula varied considerably each day. Some days were very warm and sunny with little wind (approximately 50°F/10°C), and others were freezing and windy (approximately 32°F/0°C), with snow falling on us as we kayaked! Celsius (°C) is another unit used to measure temperature, along with Fahrenheit (°F).

What animals did I see this week? :

While we were in Antarctica, we saw many animals. They ranged from bird species (like penguins and albatross) to marine mammals (like whales, dolphins and seals)!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

We observed adult Gentoo penguins coating the feathers of their young with a naturally-produced oil sourced from near their tails (to waterproof the feathers) and teaching them how to swim in the shallow waters of Mikkelsen Harbour.
