The weather this week was beautiful. Of course there was a little bit of rain and a few clouds at the beginning, but it is Germany! Over the weekend, it was warm and sunny. It was perfect to have a picnic outside.
European starlings are very common here, small black birds with yellow beaks. I also saw geese by the river—they like to come close to people having picnics!
Heidelberg is very close to the Schwarzwald, or the Black Forest. This dense, evergreen forest is famous for inspiring many fairytales and legends like "Hansel & Gretel," "Snow White," and "Sleeping Beauty." You probably know these stories, too! The Black Forest is also a great place to go hiking.
The Aurora Borealis is a beautiful dance of light in the night sky. It usual occurs in the far north, but this week we saw them in Germany, too. This was definitely a very exciting week in Heidelberg!
