This week the weather has been cold and rainy. One of my Bulgarian friends taught me a new Bulgarian phrase this week: Днес времето е мрачно which means "Today the weather is bad." Because I live an hour from the Black Sea coast, we get a lot of precipitation here in Shumen. Precipitation is water released from clouds in the sky, so it can refer to rain, snow or hail. Right now, it is not cold enough for snow, so the precipitation is mostly rain.
This past weekend I got to travel to Albania, and there were so many animals there! As we drove through the countryside, I saw goats, horses, cows, chickens and cats. In Bulgaria there are a lot of the same animals, but they are more common in small villages and farms. I live in a city, so I don't see these animals very often, but we do have a great deal of cats in Shumen. There are seven that like to hang around my apartment building because there is a баба (baba means grandma in Bulgarian) that likes to feed them her leftover food.
