These look like giant holes in the ground next to the coast. If you look down into them, there is a little cave where water from the sea is able to rush in. When the waves are very big, the water will rush through the cave and spray out of the hole in the ground like a geyser!
My Spanish roommate, and lots of the other people I have met so far, have told me that they think it has been very hot here, lately. They say it is usually even colder at this time of year!
