Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I traveled from Paris to Venice, from Venice to Bologna and from Bologna back to Paris. I had a fall break from school, and I decided to see the world a little more.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I travelled a total of 1,476 miles on my journey this fall break.

How did I get around this week?:

I took a bus from Reims to Paris, where I took a plane and flew to Venice. I then walked most of the time once in Venice, but sometimes I would take a water taxi, which is the main mode of transportation in Venice. Venice is made up of many islands with canals crossing all over the city. So the canals, in a way, are like streets. There are no cars, only boats. After Venice, I took another bus to Bologna and then flew from Bologna to Paris. My trip ended by taking a train back from Paris to Reims. That was a lot of traveling!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was the island of Murano, which is next to the island of Venice. In Murano, they specialize in creating beautiful glasswork. The glassmaking it's famous for started on the main island of Venice. However, people were worried that the fires used to work with the glass might spread and cause buildings to burn down, the glassmaking was moved to Murano in 1291 to protect the buildings of Venice.
