This is an interview with Martina, who has lived through many different changes in the Czech Republic, including living under the rule of Communist Russia, a revolution for independence and the creation of a new country. Now, Martina lives a fairly typical, modern life as Czechia celebrates over 25 years of independence.
My name is Martina Tomková.
I live in Lanškroun in my new house that my husband and I have built. The outside is grey with yellow. The floors are wood, and taking off one's shoes and wearing house slippers is customary in the Czech Republic. It has two stories and a garden where I grow some tomatoes and pumpkins and things.
I have a husband named Peter and a son who is named Matouš. Matouš is in grade two. He volunteers at the fire brigade with his friends after school.
We have a car but in town I will ride my bike or walk. Usually I have to take Matouš to school, so driving is easier for me.
