A low, rumbling growl emanated from the cage. I could feel the air quiver around me, but I was too entraced to move. In front of me was a one of the most beautiful animals that I had ever seen. It was a Eurasian lynx. Her sleek tan and auburn fur was spotted with an unusual pattern. Her ears peaked into perfect fluffy triangles, and her amber eyes never looked away from me, not even for a second. "She was caught in trap not too far from here," said the guide. "I really hope that we will get her back out into nature soon. She is always pacing her cage, looking for ways to go back home."
The Eurasian lynx, which is called a rys in Czech, has a creamy red-tan coat with pointy ears and a truncated tail, whick makes it look not too unlike the North American bobcat. It is a smaller species of wildcat with a bit of a shaggy coat with unusual spots that remind me of the rosettes on a jaguar.
I was a little sad when I saw this creature, acting a little angry and provoked, pacing up and down the path in her enclosure. It was clear that she wanted to be anywhere but there, and her eyes were fixed on all of the visitors. I hope she can be re-introduced into the wild when she recovers from her trap injury.
