Last weekend, my host family and I celebrated a reunion to spend time together, and we traveled to a city called Puyo that is found on the edge of Ecuador's Amazon region. Puyo is located in the province of Pastaza. We left at seven in the morning to begin our two hour drive. It was cold in the morning as we left the mountain highlands, and I was dressed in a sweater and long leggings. When I got out of the car for breakfast at around nine in the morning, I was hit with a wave of heat and humidity. I had to take my sweater off and wear summertime clothes! I was very excited, because I love warm weather!
The Amazon region's beauty is rooted in nature. You can find so many species of trees, plants, bushes and flowers. My host family and I went to what is called a hospedaje, which is a hotel or a lodge with many fun activities. We went swimming, and we had to wear swim caps in order to go into the pool!
As I arrived at the pool, my host cousin, Mathias, found the most beautiful butterfly!
The butterfly was small with wings that were completely clear on the top and pink on the bottom! I had never seen anything like it!
