Reading, Writing and Learning: Teaching at the Public Library

Introduction:

Hello, everyone! I hope you had a lovely spring break!

I wanted to talk a little bit about what it's like living in another country and how you can find ways to contribute to your community! Doing volunteer work is a lovely way to help people in need. Not only does it provide services to people who need them, but it is also fulfilling experience for you! Volunteering helps you gain experience in new tasks and abilities, and it connects you to new people you otherwise would not have met. It also gives you a chance to learn more about your community.

Let me take you on my journey learning more about my community!

What community need did I learn about?:

As you all know, I live in a city called Ambato, Ecuador! Ambato is a fairly large city with a population of about 300,000 people. It is a city full of culture, gastronomy and lots of fun events for the community. The local government supports many of these events, including music and dance performances, art exhibitions and free courses to the public.

When I first arrived in Ambato, there was another volunteer named Darcy who was finishing up her service in the city, and she invited me to attend her course in the public library. She had classes absolutely filled with people!
