I like to walk because it allows me to take in my surroundings and better observe my environment. Take today, for example. I was walking home from school and I was able to take in the beauty of the changing leaves. I can also stop for street food!
I like to travel by metro when I’m traveling farther distances. This week, I had to register as a resident, but the place I had to go to do this was quite far from my apartment. So I took the metro. Not only was it cheap, but once the rush hour was over, it was a very comfortable way to travel. I was even able to snag a seat! The metro is also very easy to figure out, and I think Wuhan’s metro is very comparable to metros and subways across America.
All the modes of transportation are designed to be solutions to the city’s population--especially the public transportation. The roads can be so clogged up that you may be stuck in the same place for a long time. This is when motorbikes and the metro come in handy. Buses, on the other hand, cost such a reasonable price that pretty much everyone can afford it, which helps citizens with lesser means get around. Because there are many little shops and food stands that line almost every street, it is easy to see how walking fits into Wuhan’s culture. Additionally, since Wuhan is dominated by students, you can see why these cheap methods of transportation are widely used.
