Oh, the Places You'll Go

Introduction:

In Hong Kong, there are many places to visit, which means there are many ways to get to where you need to go. There are a lot of apps, signs and kind strangers that can help you get around, but it helps to know your options and to have an idea of what directions you're going in.

One of the things that has stood out to me the most about the many forms of transit in Hong Kong is that they are all so clean!

How do people get around?:

People get around by cars, Mass Transit Railway (called the MTR, which is similar to your New York MTA subway!), taxis, a few buses, trams, bikes and on their feet!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

Figuring out transportation in a new country can be overwhelming, especially if you don't know the difference between the types of transportation. For example, when I first arrived in Hong Kong, I didn't know how the mini-buses worked. For those types of buses, you need to tell the bus driver where to stop or they will not stop where you need to get off. The MTR can be very busy and you may be uncomfortably pressed against the person next to you as you both try and not fall over during rush hour!

Hong Kong is a great example of efficient transportation, though. Everything is on time and you can always count on another bus coming very soon if you miss the one you wanted.
