What main languages are spoken here?:

Here in Bucaramanga, and in the whole country of Colombia, the main language is Spanish (more than 99% of people here speak it!).

What type of money is used here?:

In Bucaramanga, we use the Colombian peso. One U.S. dollar is about 3,000 pesos! They have coins that go down to 50 pesos, which is worth less than one penny.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs about 2,000 pesos or 60 cents.

What was the best meal this week?:

This week for breakfast I treated myself to a famous donut place in Bucaramanga. Here in Colombia, donuts are not a breakfast food, they are eaten in the afternoon. A lot of people think if you eat sweets for breakfast, you will get a tummy ache, so the breakfast food here is very plain. My donut had arequipe (pronounced ar-eh-kee-pay) inside of it, which is like dulce de leche or caramelized milk. I will be sure to get a picture of it next time!

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I listened to vallenato (pronounced bye-en-ah-toe) a lot! Vallenato literally translates to "from the valley," for good reason because it is from Valledupar, which is a city in the valley of Colombia. It is a type of Colombian folk music.
