What main languages are spoken here?:

Thai is the main language spoken here, but I'm learning that a lot of people in this region of Thailand, Issan, speak a slightly different version of Thai, where some words are different. A slightly different language that changes based on a specific geographic area is called a dialect, and this dialect is called pas-a-Issan rather than the Thai language, pas-a-Thai. For example, in pas-a-Thaiif something is delicious, I will say, "Aroi maag!" In pas-a-Issan, I would say "Sep eelee!

What type of money is used here?:

Thai currency is called baht. Having about 35 baht in your pocket is the same as having one US dollar in your pocket.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Because tap water in Thailand is undrinkable, bottled water can be found everywhere. You can buy a small bottle from 7-11 for 13 baht, or about 37 cents. There are drinking water spouts stationed throughout the city where it is possible to refill your bottle with drinkable water for one baht.

What was the best meal this week?:

My favorite meal this week was a big bowl of tom yum koong.
