This week, my favorite meal was ceeb u legume (rice with vegetables) which my host mom made for lunch on Thursday. The meal had my favorite vegetables, including cabbage, carrots, potatoes and pumin (Senegalese spicy peppers). The rice also had a palm oil sauce and jam from baobab fruits, which make any meal delicious! I also got to make citron (Senegalese lemonade) with my host family on Thursday, and this is now my favorite drink.
This week, I listened to a lot of Senegalese music in the Wolof and Serrer languages. Most of the time, I listen to music with my host family when we relax after a long day. Senegalese people also love to dance to music, so my host siblings have been teaching me Senegalese dancing. Dancing is super fun because people will form a circle and encourage other people to dance, which makes it a community event.
This week, I loved going to the market with my host mom to buy vegetables, fish and other supplies. Ndiaganiao is the largest village in my region, so every Tuesday people from 25 villages come here to buy and sell goods. Multiple streets are closed and the market even sells school supplies, clothing, shoes, jewelry, hardware and decorations for horse carts!
