During Pongal, a traditional bullfighting sport from Tamil Nadu (jallikattu) was televised. Jallikattu is a sport where a bull is released into a crowd of players and the players try to hold onto the bull's hump for as long as possible while the bull tries to fight them off. Jallikattu tournaments are usually held in villages in Tamil Nadu. The most famous jallikattu competition happens in the town of Madurai, which is a seven hour drive from Chennai. The winner of the jallikattu tournament I watched on TV won a car, while second place won an auto, and third place won a tractor.
