Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

Like I shared, I am an English Assistant at a university in Bogota. This week in class we discussed Bad Bunny’s new album “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos”. While this album is in Spanish, reggaeton is a very popular genre in Colombia and I thought it would be fun to discuss a reggaeton album that is currently very popular in the US. While we discussed songs like “Baile Inolvidable” and “Lo Que Le Paso a Hawaii”, we also discussed songs like “Nuevayol” which talks about New York City. With my students, we talked about New York City’s large Puerto Rican and Dominican populations.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Every Sunday, Bogota has Ciclovia, a weekly Sunday activity where the city closes down about 77 miles of city streets so people can bike, run and exercise in the street. Since moving to Bogota, this has been one of my favorite traditions to see and participate in. This week, I decided to go on a run since the weather was really nice. Typically on Ciclovia, I like to go on a long bike ride to a park or to eat breakfast.

What did I read this week?:

This week I read a book titled, "The Undocumented Americans" on my kindle. Usually I have 15 minutes in between classes, so I used the time to do some reading while drinking some coffee!

What games or sports did I play this week?:

Monserrate is a mountain in downtown Bogota that is very close to the city center. This mountain is approximately 3,152 meters above sea level and has a church at the top of the mountain. Since moving to Bogota, I have taken advantage of the beautiful hikes available, especially on Monserrate!
