Mandarin Chinese is the main language spoken here, but because Taipei is such a big city, I hear tons of languages! I also hear a lot of English and some of the indigenous languages. Sometimes, when I am on public transportation, I hear languages from all over the world spoken by tourists and exchange students!
Taiwan uses New Taiwan Dollars as their currency. They have 1, 5, 10, and 50 dollar coins as well as 100, 500, and 1,000 dollar bills. There are also rare 200 and 2,000 dollar bills out there; my friend received one as a gift! They use coins but there are no cents here. All costs are whole dollar amounts.
A bottle of water costs about 30 New Taiwan Dollars. This is a little under 1 United States Dollar.
In my neighborhood, there is a pho restaurant that I absolutely love! I always get pork tendon pho. It has noodles, broth, pork, tendons, and bean sprouts. I like to add lime juice, too! My friend and I got pho for dinner one night and brought it back to my apartment to eat it while we watched one of our favorite shows: Avatar, The Last Airbender.
